Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) made headlines again for all the wrong reasons. This time, Crockett made a string of controversial remarks and actions that have drawn criticism from both political figures and the public. From her derogatory comments about Texas Governor Greg Abbott to her remarks about Elon Musk and an apparent physical altercation with a reporter, Crockett has become a heat magnet in today’s already over-the-top political climate.
Crockett Aimed “Hot Wheels” Insult at Gov. Greg Abbott
During a recent public appearance at an event for Human Rights Campaign, Crockett referred to Texas Governor Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels.” The comment, widely interpreted as an attack on Abbott’s disability—he has used a wheelchair since a tragic accident in 1984—sparked backlash from political opponents and disability advocates alike.
Crockett attempted to deflect criticism by claiming her remarks were solely about Abbott’s immigration policies rather than a personal jab. However, critics ranging from prominent conservative voices (including one who introduced a resolution to censure Crockett) to even more liberal voices on The View, pointed out that the phrase was a direct insult that should be out of bounds in political discourse.
Meanwhile, Abbott responded with characteristic restraint, focusing instead on Texas’ economic success under his leadership, sidestepping the personal attack.
Did Crockett Threaten Elon Musk?
Crockett found herself in even more hot water after allegedly calling for action against Tesla CEO Elon Musk. In a livestream, she reportedly suggested the need to “take down” Musk, a comment that immediately raised concerns about its implications. Musk, a frequent target of progressive ire due to his political leanings and influence, has not publicly responded to Crockett’s remarks, but conservative commentators were quick to sound the alarm.
Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi took issue with Crockett’s words, suggesting they could have encouraged real-world hostility toward Musk and his enterprises, including news of multiple incendiary devices found inside a Tesla dealership in Austin. Bondi, echoing sentiments expressed by others, called on Crockett to clarify or retract her statement, warning that reckless rhetoric could have serious consequences.
Caught on Camera: Crockett’s Apparent Assault on a Reporter
Beyond her inflammatory words, Crockett drew further scrutiny for her actions in Congress. A viral video from conservative firebrand Laura Loomer appears to show Crockett physically striking a reporter while walking through a hallway in Congress. This seems to be a developing story in and of itself, but according to Newsweek, the reporter has since filed a police report against Crockett.
Upon seeing this latest news, social media users re-posted past statements of Crockett arguably advocating for political violence. Among them were were Crockett’s comments concerning Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), where she said he should be “knocked over the head” in a debate.
Crockett’s Pattern of Controversy
Jasmine Crockett has developed a reputation for inflammatory rhetoric and questionable conduct. In fact, we identified her as one of the worst “Hot Mess” buffoons of 2024.Who can forget her kerfuffle with Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene that devolved into chaos and name-calling. Or, when Crockett ignited yet another row with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-VA) when Crockett called Mace a “child.”
But, will there be any real consequences for Crockett’s latest actions? Maybe. The footage of her apparent assault on a reporter and subsequent police report filing should raise serious questions about whether she will be held accountable. That remains to be seen.
For now, Crockett seems undeterred, continuing to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.
