A trio of legal headaches now have Democrats crying “Lawfare!” to anyone who would listen, as the Department of Justice (DOJ) moves forward with an investigation into disgraced NY Governor and former NYC mayoral frontrunner Andrew Cuomo, and has announced criminal charges against Rep. Lam Monica MacGyver (D-NJ) for an alleged assault at an ICE facility. These developments come as New York Attorney General Letitia James made her first public comments about the DOJ’s investigation into her own affairs.
Remember when Democrats bombarded the airwaves to remind us how “no one is above the law” last year as they cheered the legal pile-on against Donald Trump? Well now, the shoe is on the other hand, the glove is on the other foot! You know what I mean! Fast forward to 2025, and that bitter medicine is now being served to Democrats—three of them, to be precise.
Andrew Cuomo: A “Long Overdue” Investigation
Late yesterday, the DOJ made it official: after two letters of referral from Congress, and unwavering advocacy from families, the Department of Justice opened a criminal inquiry into former Governor Andrew Cuomo, focusing on whether he lied to Congress about his role in covering up nursing home deaths during COVID-19.
In response to the news, Voices for Seniors— an advocacy organization which has been at the forefront of demanding justice for over 15,000 seniors who passed in New York nursing homes—welcomed the move, calling it “not just justified, but overdue.”
“Cuomo’s alleged involvement in editing the July 2020 DOH report to conceal the real death toll is not just a betrayal of public trust —it’s a betrayal of the very lives he was sworn to protect,” the organization said in a statement last night.
“We need the truth and that’s how we can basically honor our parents and that’s how we get closure,” Zayas told us when she was a guest on our show.
Cuomo’s spokesperson, Rich Azzopardi said in response to the news that, “This is lawfare and election interference plain and simple – something President Trump and his top Department of Justice officials say they are against.”
Maybe the Cuomo camp didn’t get the memo from 2024: elections no longer matter in the pursuit of justice. Just ask Merrick Garland.
LaMonica McIver: Body Cam Footage Tells the Tale
Also yesterday, the DOJ informed Congresswoman LaMonica McIver that she will be facing felony assault charges from New Jersey.
Interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba charged McIver with “assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement” on May 9, when ICE officials clashed with McIver, other representatives, and protestors outside of the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility after several people rushed an open gate that was admitting a bus of detainees into the facility. We covered the incident in greater detail earlier this month here.
The DOJ released body cam footage showing McIver, pushing, shoving and elbowing ICE officials during what she claimed was a “congressional oversight visit.”
The video also shows MacIver dropping the ever-entitled “Do you know who I am?” line while ignoring ICE directives.
McIver reacted to the news on CNN where she tried to spin her actions as standard oversight. No word on whether the oversight included either her left or right elbow landing on the back of an ICE officer.
Yeah… oversight my @$$.
Letitia James: The Hunter Becomes the Hunted
New York Attorney General Letitia James, the same official who led the charge against Donald Trump, now faces a DOJ probe into her own alleged mortgage fraud. The allegations center on her co-signing of a property loan in Virginia and a power of attorney document containing false information.
Her defense? A paperwork mistake.
Where have we heard that before? Oh yeah—when Trump said it, she didn’t buy it. But now she expects the public to do just that.
“This investigation into me is nothing more than retribution. It’s baseless,” she told a crowd while delivering the keynote address at the Association for a Better New York’s “Power Breakfast” in Manhattan.
Hypocrisy, meet karma.
Trump’s DOJ: Lawfare or Justice?
Here’s the thing—credibility matters. And in all three cases, there’s more than just partisan rage. There’s video, paper trails, and testimony.
Compare that to the novel legal theories thrown at Trump last year and the difference becomes clear.
This isn’t lawfare. This is actual evidence catching up with those who thought they were untouchable.
This is the pursuit of justice.
Because in Trump’s DOJ, nobody’s above the law.
But that’s just our opinion – what do you think about all of these moves by the DOJ? Is Trump’s DOJ going too hard after partisans? Or is this simply the zealous pursuit of justice?
