Three Times Leftists Turned on the Democrats This Week

Things are Getting Tense!

With no clear standard-bearers setting the tone, it’s the leftists filling that leadership vacuum—with chaos, confrontation, and extremism.

The absence of strong, unifying leadership in the Democratic Party appears to have emboldened leftists—especially those on the far-left fringe—to take more drastic action, including disruptive protests, deceptive tactics, and, in some cases, politically motivated violence.

We often break down the American political left into three rough groupings: Democrats (traditional center-left supporters of the establishment), liberals (advocates for tax-and-spend policies and traditional civil rights advocacy), and leftists (activists who hold fringe or extreme views and are willing to act—sometimes rashly—to compel compliance with those views).

Right now, with no clear standard-bearers setting the tone, it’s the leftists filling that leadership vacuum—with chaos, confrontation, and extremism.

Let’s look at three fresh examples of far-left chaos targeting fellow Democrats.

Fringe Leftists Disrupt Bernie Sanders’ Decades-Old “Oligarchy” Spiel

One constant in American politics is Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) pushing the narrative that the U.S. is becoming an oligarchy where the rich thrive and everyone else suffers. But after thirty-plus years of predicting this “rapid” descent, it may be time for a new script.

That said, Sanders’ latest push—his “Fight Oligarchy” tour with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)—is winding its way through traditionally red states. At a stop in Idaho, a group of pro-Palestinian protesters hijacked the stage, unfurling a “Free Palestine” flag behind Sanders mid-speech and chanting until the Vermont senator lost his rhythm completely.

Like a deer in headlights, Sanders froze, stammered, and tried to calm the crowd. It didn’t work. The left-wing activists drowned him out, and the rally took several minutes to recover.

This moment of intra-left disruption didn’t escalate—but unfortunately, not every protest this week stayed peaceful.

Crazed Leftist Sets Fire to the PA Governor’s Residence After Passover Seder

Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family had just concluded a Passover seder in the Pennsylvania Governor’s Mansion when a fire broke out in the very room where they had just gathered.

The man accused of starting the fire, Cody Balmer, called 911 himself and, according to PennLive, spewed some really extreme stuff that formed the basis for their arrest warrant:

The suspect, Cody Balmer, called 911 following the attack early Sunday, identified himself by name and told operators Shapiro needs to know he “…will not take part in his plans for what he wants to do to the Palestinian people,” the search warrant written by police said.

Balmer continued, saying he needed to “stop having my friends killed” and that “…our people have been put through too much by that monster,” according to the warrant, which says Balmer’s intonation and cadence sounded like he was possibly reading from a script.

Whether right or left, political violence has no place in civil society. But this week served as a reminder that leftist extremism can be just as dangerous as anything from the opposite end of the spectrum.

Shady Leftist David Hogg Tries to Change from Within

Not all intra-party upheaval plays out in the streets. Some comes from within the party machinery itself.

Remember the fiasco at this year’s DNC forum that we covered? Out of that mess emerged David Hogg— Parkland survivor turned gun control advocate—who was elected Vice-Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Since then, Hogg has done more than stir the pot. Reports reveal he’s been using DNC donor lists to raise money for personal projects, and more explosively, he’s now leading an effort to primary sitting Democratic incumbents who don’t meet his ideological standards.

Let’s say that again slowly: a sitting Vice-Chair of the DNC is working to unseat fellow Democrats.

This is not about debate or reform—it’s about a shady leftist attempting to reshape the party from within. Normally, this would be clearly in-bounds politically, but Hogg’s are, as the kids say, “sus.” Not only do Hogg’s actions represent a generational and ideological power play, but it’s also a signal that the rules of engagement have changed.

Why This Matters

These three stories are not isolated incidents. They’re part of a growing trend: radical leftists seizing the microphone and pushing extreme tactics in the absence of firm leadership from the Democratic establishment.

Political activism is an essential part of democracy. But when engagement crosses into hijacking, harassment, and even violence, it stops being civic participation and starts becoming ideological intimidation.

If Democratic leadership doesn’t step up to define the party’s values and boundaries, extremist leftist voices may continue to set the tone. And as we’ve seen this week, the results can be messy, destabilizing—and in the worst case, dangerous.

Stephen A. Smith may not be a politician—but in today’s climate with facorable opinions of Democrats at a low, that may be his biggest asset.
