Hasbro raised eyebrows on Thursday after announcing it was dropping the “Mister” from their “Potato Head” toys’ brand name, but then backtracked.
Hasbro announced it created a new playset that drops the Mr. and Mrs. designations for its iconic “Potato Head” toys. According to published reports, Hasbro made the drastic change so all could feel “welcome in the Potato Head world.”
“Culture has evolved. Kids want to be able to represent their own experiences. The way the brand currently exists — with the ‘Mr.’ and ‘Mrs.’ — is limiting when it comes to both gender identity and family structure,” said Hasbro’s Kimberly Boyd
But in a tweet later that afternoon, Hasbro seemingly backtracked. Now, Hasbro says that while the brand is changing, the actual Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head characters will remain.
As you can see, the “Mr.” and “Mrs.” names are less prominently displayed at the bottom of the box.
Our Take…
The trend of corporate America bowing to “cancel culture” and hyper-progressivism continues. Hasbro has joined Disney and Coca-Cola in bowing to extreme left sentiments and fundamentally altering a cultural icon. The generation who raised kids that thought eating Tide Pods was a good idea apparently thinks their childhood was horrible. It’s a wonder they stayed alive and “well-balanced” this long with all that was so horrible in the past.
Unlike Disney and Coca-Cola, Hasbro seems to be straddling the line of political correctness. Lefties are get their genderless potatoes, while Hasbro winks and nods at the rest of us to show that nothing really changed. Which, at the end of the day, is best for their bottom line. So we cannot be mad at Hasbro.
But the gender confusion Hasbro created certainly seems like a microcosm of the confusion everyday Americans feel towards the progressive left’s gender “definitions”.
