Buffoonery Or Not? Biden’s Latest Gaffe

If former Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden thought that his toughness would put questions concerning his mental stability to rest – he’d better guess again.

In an interview with Errol Bennett, Biden snapped at a question directed toward his mental health. Like… not mentally snapped, but snapped in a highly defensive manner. Biden then accuses the reporter of goading him into a confrontation (if so – mission accomplished!) and stammers through the remainder of his answer to Bennett’s follow-up. None of which did anything to inspire confidence in Biden’s mental faculties. Anger is not a new reaction from Biden on the campaign trail when he is confronted. In town halls in the past, Biden got his back up at anyone daring to question him negatively, but instead of calling Bennett “fat”, he took a different tact.

In these racially insensitive times, it looks like Biden turned to a darker stereotype, using words like “junkie” and “cocaine” in a rhetorical question directed personally at the reporter? Did he do this based on race?

Given his comments to Charlamagne tha God, his comments about former President Barack Obama being “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean”, his comments that “you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent“, past defenses of segregation, and his role in authoring the 1994 crime bill, when do we say that there is a pattern of racism? Or, if there was no malicious intent, maybe the whispers about Biden’s mental slippage are indeed true and whatever skill he had as a politician has been lost to time? We’re clearly not doctors (of anything but Buffoonology anyways!), so who are we to say definitively?

Biden has nothing to gain from waging war with the media or acting paranoia like they are out to get him. Sometimes – a simple “Yes” of “No” is all that is needed to do the trick.
