Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources may have taken social distancing guidelines a little too far. Last week, the agency ordered employees to wear masks during video calls, even if they are at their home.
In an email to employees, the head of Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources reminded employees the state’s mask mandate effective as of the beginning of August. However, the email went a step furher, ordering every employee to wear a mask at all times, including during a teleconference from home.
As you may have guessed, the announcement has little to do with public safety and all to do with virtue signaling:
“Also, wear your mask, even if you are home, to participate in a virtual meeting that involves being seen — such as on Zoom or another video-conferencing platform — by non-DNR staff,” Preston Cole said, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Set the safety example which shows you as a DNR public service employee care about the safety and health of others.”

Wisconsin’s executive order requires face mask coverings to be worn whenever you are indoors or in an enclosed space, “other than a private residence.” So this agency’s additional directive constitutes a further push of this order uncharted madness with no public safety value.
