Last Friday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the arrest of Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan for allegedly obstructing federal agents during an attempted arrest of an illegal immigrant charged with domestic violence.
You can’t make this stuff up.
Over the weekend, Dugan’s arrest became a political football, Remember when Democrats and liberals during the Trump impeachments and throughout the Biden administration loudly proclaimed that “no one is above the law” when it came to filing criminal charges against the then-former now-current President?
Now would be a good time to revisit that talking point because those same Democrats are singing a new tune now that the shoe is on the other foot.
What Happened with Judge Hannah Dugan?
DISCLAIMER: Allegations are not findings of fact! Judge Dugan has the presumption of innocence and the right to due process.

Federal officials allege that immigration agents arrived at Dugan’s courtroom to detain Eduardo Flores-Ruiz. Flores-Ruiz is an illegal Mexican immigrant who appeared in Judge Dugan’s court for alleged misdemeanor domestic violence charges. Judge Dugan, visibly angry, allegedly screamed at the agents in the court hallway and instructed them to take their concerns about Flores-Ruiz to the Chief Judge.
This is where things allegedly took a bizarre turn: according to the sworn criminal complaint, Dugan directed Flores-Ruiz and his attorney into her chambers and then helped them access a non-public exit, normally reserved for jurors, to leave the courthouse without encountering federal agents.
Long story short, a sitting judge sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution allegedly helped an illegal immigrant evade federal law enforcement.
Dugan’s alleged actions led to a public foot chase involving DEA and FBI agents, which — thankfully — ended with Flores-Ruiz’s apprehension without further incident.
Democrats & Media Change Their New Tune After Dugan Arrest
How many times did we hear that popular refrain from Democrats during the two Trump impeachments and the criminal prosecutions of President Trump: “no one is above the law”?
Yet now that a Democratic judge faces serious charges — which, if convicted, could result in up to six years in federal prison — many of those same voices are either suspiciously silent or shifting the focus elsewhere, like criticizing the tactics used during her arrest and deflecting comment on the arrest itself.
For instance, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson emphasized the so-called “escalation” involved in arresting Dugan, calling it “this ham-handed, half-hazard way that this administration has been doing since day one,” and warning — without providing evidence — that it could “drive people away from participating in court proceedings, making our community less safe.” While community trust is an important concern, Johnson notably refused to comment on the nature of Dugan’s alleged crimes.
It leaves observers like us wondering if Johnson saw an opportunity to attack the Trump administration rather than address the alleged misconduct of Judge Dugan.
Further, multiple mainstream media outlets repeatedly called Dugan’s arrest an example of “escalation” in a manner which seemed like a coordinated effort to frame a narrative.
In response to this budding narrative, CNN commentator Scott Jennings pointed out that activist jurists like Dugan have created a pattern of public obstruction against the Trump administration’s primary goal of immigration reform, which justifies the equally high-profile nature of the arrest. Sending a clear message: similar misconduct will be met with real consequences.
If judges feel emboldened to obstruct federal law enforcement without consequence, it endangers not only public safety but the very idea of equal justice under law.
After all, as the Attorney General said, “No one is above the law.”

Do Democrats Ever Really Believe That “No One Is Above the Law?”
The response from the left smacks of selective outrage, media bias, and whether that they ever meant for that tired old slogan — “no one is above the law” —to apply universally, or only to just to political opponents.
What’s lost in the political rancor is that, based on the sworn facts alleged so far, it sure sounds like there’s a strong case to move forward against Judge Hannah Dugan.
Where do you stand on this issue? Was Judge Hannah Dugan’s arrest paraded by the DOJ because of politics, or does the alleged crime merit the high-profile nature of the arrest?
